Tugu Khatulistiwa yang Malang

Awalnya tugu ini terletak di pintu gerbang kota Bontang, seolah menyambut dan mengucapkan selamat datang bagi siapapun yang memasuki wilayah kota dengan julukan kota TAMAN.

Beberapa tahun yang lalu dikarenakan alasan tertentu , tugu Khatulistiwa ini dipindahkan ke KM 25 jalan poros Bontang-Samarinda, Santan Ulu kecamatan Marang Kayu Kutai Kartanegater, terletak di atas bukit tertinggi di wilayah itu dengan pemandangan yang sangat eksotis, tempat parkir yang cukup luas, dan gazebo yang unik untuk tempat istirahat.

Namun sayang disayang untuk saat ini kondisinya begitu mengenaskan , jalan masuk yang sempit, Rumput liar tumbuh di mana-mana, bangunan utama yang tidak terawat dengan pintu-pintunya yang terlihat jarang dibuka, dan bangunan kecil di sebelahnya yang tidak terurus. Tidak ditemukan sampah plastik karena sepertinya jarang dikunjungi.

Butuh perhatian khusus dari pemerintah maupun investor untuk mengembalikan keindahan dan eksotisme suasana sekitar monumen agar layak untuk dikunjungi sebagai koleksi tujuan wisata yang eksklusif. Area perbukitan yang ada di sekitar monumen bisa dijadikan wahana petualangan . Kerjasama dengan UMKM bisa diwujudkan untuk meningkatkan pendapatan warga setempat, serta rekruitmen tenaga kebersihan dan keamanan untuk mengurangi pengangguran.

Diperlukan perhatian khusus untuk pengelolaan sampah agar ekosistem tetap terjaga dengan baik.

Tugu Khatulistiwa sebenarnya adalah tempat rekreasi alam yang layak dikunnjungi, sebagai wahana belajar dan mengekplore lebih jauh tentang garis 0 derajat lintang.bumi. Dari atas bukit kita bisa menikmati hijaunya pepohonan yang terhampar luas, jalan poros Bontang-Samarinda yang berkelok naik turun dan tangki-tangki PT Badak dari Kejauhan
